Importance
of Reading
A child’s reading skills are important to their success
in school as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and
improve their language and communication skills. Reading is the cheapest way of
acquiring knowledge and thus improving the lifestyles. In addition, reading can
be a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to all kinds of
new worlds for them. Reading materials such as books, journals, magazines newspapers,
etc. are the most inexpensive source of knowledge and entertainment.
Why reading is important ?
1. Giving Satisfaction
Reading gives great satisfaction to the
readers. Even parents feel satisfied when they see their kids are reading
books.
2. Improves conversational skills:
Reading increases knowledge and vocabulary of how to correctly use new
words, reading helps clearly articulate what want to say. The knowledge improve from reading also gives us lots to
talk about with others.
3. Improving Writing Skills
Reading makes a better
writer. When we read, our brain absorbs good
writing techniques and vocabulary. In our own writing, unconsciously copy the
writing styles of books that held our attention. Reading helps gradual
improvements in vocabulary that in turn enhances the reader’s writing
skills. As it boosts the ability to think, it also improves the written
expression. Reading also enhances vocabulary and spelling.
4. Exercise of Brain
Reading is regarded as an exercise of the brain, scientific studies show
that reading does make smarter. Reading a novel, for example, increases the
blood flow and improves connectivity in the brain. When we involved in reading
our brain cells start to work for understanding the meaning of the text and try
to relate various aspects of the matter we read. Thus reading stimulates
the brain and impels it to think about all possible aspects for realizing the
meaning.
5. Enhancing Concentration
For reading one needs to be focused for a longer duration and it requires mental exercise. For understanding the text or the whole story, the reader must concentrate his mind on a particular matter. In this way, reading improves concentration power and focus.

The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Teaching young children to read helps them develop their language skills. It also helps them learn to listen. Everybody wants to talk, but few can really listen. Lack of listening skills can result in major misunderstandings which can lead to job loss, marriage breakup, and other disasters – small and great. Reading helps to focus on what someone else is communicating.

Reading not only enriches your knowledge but also makes it sharpen to analyze and evaluate things in a better way. In this way, reading enhances our analytical thinking. Reading introduces new ideas and invites to solve problems: Have you ever solved a case in a mystery book before you read the conclusion or predicted a turn of events in a novel? Your analytical thinking was stimulated merely from reading. Reading helps us detect patterns, solve problems, and assimilate new information as if we were living in the characters’ shoes.

Skilful reading increases the vocabulary of the readers by introducing them with the new and unfamiliar words and phrases regularly. It not only enriches our vocabulary but also teaches us a better way of expressing ourselves.

Reading enhances the knowledge of the
readers. Reading can teach historical politics, customs, cultures,
economics, and intellect. Often these facts are set in a context of a
story, making history easy to remember. By developing the reading skills,
the readers can diversify their field of knowledge which provides them with the
chance to participate in fruitful discussion and decision-making
processes.

Reading a good book is like being around an inspiring person. Observe inspiring actions, feel contagious passion, and desire to live a better life. Reading about specific field or interests can improve success in our field. We’ll gain factual knowledge and learn from others’ experiments and mistakes.

Reading about something you enjoy or losing yourself in a good novel is an excellent way to relax. Reading is a great habit that can change human lives dramatically. It can entertain us; amuse us and enrich us with knowledge.It can ease tension in our muscles and heart while letting our brain wander to new ideas and live in someone else’s shoes. Reading is a mini vacation for our brain! It helps us reducing stress, relieving tensions and thus boosts our energy. It carries us to the realm of dream and amusement – far away from the real complex world
12. Improve imagination: As we read, we put ourself in the characters’ shoes. Our brain goes beyond the words on the page, imagining details such as appearances, emotions, and surroundings. What we become in the future will depend on the words we believe about our self now. People, families, relationships, and even nations are built from words.
